Setup Guide & Installation
VDSL, fibre and fixed wireless setup guides for dynamic IP internet services.
VDSL Internet Setup Guide (Dynamic IP)
This guide will help you set up your VDSL internet service using a standard modem/router. The process may vary slightly depending on the brand of equipment, but the general steps remain the same.
1. Equipment Needed
- VDSL modem/router, must support VDSL2
- Power supply for modem/router
- Telephone cable, RJ12
- Ethernet cable, RJ45
- DSL filter/splitter if required for houses with telephone handsets on the same line
2. Physical Connection
- Connect to the wall socket: plug the RJ12 telephone cable from the modem/router DSL port into the wall socket. If using a phone service on the same line, connect a DSL filter/splitter.
- Power up the modem: connect the modem/router to power and wait 2-3 minutes for it to boot.
- Connect your device: use Ethernet from the LAN port to your computer, or connect via Wi-Fi using the default details on the modem label.
3. Modem/Router Configuration
- Open a browser and visit the modem setup address, commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
- Log in using the default username and password printed on the modem/router.
- Go to WAN, Internet Settings, or DSL Settings.
- Select VDSL2 as the connection type.
- Set WAN type to IPoE / Dynamic IP / Automatic IP.
- Ensure NAT and DHCP Server are enabled for home networks.
- Save and apply the settings. The modem may restart or reconnect.
4. Verification
- The DSL/Link light should be steady, not flashing.
- The Internet/Online light should turn on once connected.
- Open a browser and test a website.
5. Troubleshooting
No DSL light:
- Check cabling and filters.
- Ensure the modem is connected to the correct wall socket.
DSL light on but no Internet:
- Confirm connection type is set to Dynamic IP / IPoE.
- Reboot the modem.
- Contact us if the issue persists.
Slow speeds or dropouts:
- Ensure no unfiltered devices are on the line.
- Contact us to check for line faults.
Fibre / Fixed Wireless Internet Setup Guide (Dynamic IP)
This guide explains how to set up Fibre-to-the-Premises, Fixed Wireless, or NBN services using a modem/router connected via the WAN Ethernet port. These services do not use the VDSL port.
1. Equipment Needed
- Modem/router with a WAN Ethernet port
- Power supply for modem/router
- Ethernet cable, RJ45
- Active NBN Network Termination Device or Fixed Wireless equipment supplied by NBN
2. Physical Connection
- Locate the NBN NTD: for FTTP this is usually a white box inside the premises. For Fixed Wireless it is usually a small box connected to the outdoor antenna unit.
- Connect the modem/router: plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the UNI-D port, usually Port 1, on the NBN NTD. Connect the other end to the WAN/Internet port of your modem/router.
- Power up the modem/router: connect power and wait 2-3 minutes for the device to boot.
- Connect your device: use Ethernet from LAN port to computer, or connect via Wi-Fi using the default label details.
3. Modem/Router Configuration
- Open the modem setup page, commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
- Log in using the modem/router default details.
- Go to WAN or Internet Settings.
- Select WAN / Ethernet as the connection type.
- Set WAN type to IPoE / Dynamic IP / Automatic IP.
- Ensure NAT and DHCP Server are enabled for home networks.
- Save and apply settings.
4. Verification
- The WAN/Internet light should turn on once the connection is established.
- Open a browser and test a website.
5. Troubleshooting
No Internet light:
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is in the correct UNI-D port on the NTD, usually Port 1.
- Check the cable is securely connected to the modem WAN port.
- Confirm the modem is set to Dynamic IP / IPoE.
Internet light on but no browsing:
- Reboot the modem/router and NBN NTD by powering off for 1 minute, then powering back on.
- Try another LAN port or test with a direct Ethernet connection to a computer.
- Contact us if the issue persists.
You are now ready to use your Fibre or Fixed Wireless internet connection.
